6.28.2011 - Portland Trailblazers' GM Chad Buchanan introduces OSU Rookie Jon Diebler - Post Draft Presser - AP Photo - Rick Bowmer)
(We'll have general thoughts on the 2011 draft and David Lighty in a future post, this entry is solely about Jon Diebler)
Big Month #33 ! Former NCAA Basketball star Jon Diebler was already a happy man in latter weeks of June 2011. The graduate of The Ohio State University claimed his college sweetheart in marriage in late June, and the last week of the month got even better when Diebler heard his name called in the 2011 NBA Draft!
Let's fast forward to the second round of the draft (June 23, 2011)...Buckeye Nation was waiting to hear the names of three eligible players for the event (Diebler, Lighty & Lauderdale). It was well documented in pre-draft reports that while many felt Jon's extraordinary shooting ability would certainly give him an opportunity to make a roster, there was a question as to whether he would actually get drafted. Well that question was officially answered when NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Silver announced Jon Diebler as the 51st pick of the draft by the Portland Trailblazers.
Diebler commented on the feeling of hearing his name called in an interview with the Lantern.
"It's extremely exciting. It's just a blessing. A blessing from God to be able go through everything I've gone through with the opportunities I've been blessed with. Traveling and working out, and a college career that I had. To have a healthy four years playing for OSU, man, it's just unbelievable."The Lantern Q&A With OSU's Jon Diebler (Link)

Buckeye Teammates- The selection of Diebler means he will join fellow Buckeye Greg Oden as a Trailblazer! This is the second instance in recent history where two Buckeyes have found themselves on the same NBA squad..Daequan Cook & Byron Mullens are currently teammates in Oklahoma City.
Buckeyes in the NBA Draft - Jon Diebler continues Ohio State's streak of having a player drafted at four consecutive drafts (2007 through 2011). He is also the tenth Ohio State Buckeye to be drafted by an NBA team in the 'modern era'.
