David Lighty Exits 2009 In A Big Way

This blog attempts to exclusively cover the former Ohio State Buckeyes in the Professional ranks of basketball. However there are certainly exceptions, especially when we wake up to two Buckeyes in Sportscenter's top ten plays, including a big time statement dunk by do it all junior David Lighty which earned the top spot.

Lighty, the last remaining member of the 'Thad 5' super recruiting class, and emotional leader of Ohio State, has been forced to kick it up a notch with the injury induced absence of the best all around player in College Basketball, Evan Turner (12/5 back injury vs Eastern Michigan). David responded with 4 straight double figure scoring games, including a 20 point outing vs Presbyterian on December 16th, and a career high 30 point game against the Vikings of Cleveland State on December 22nd. #23 displayed the all-around game vs CSU, slashes to the hoop, mid range shots, 3 pointers, plus he was able to knock down the needed free throws to put the game out of reach. The biggest highlight of the night was undoubtedly at the 13:18 mark of the 2nd half when guard PJ Hill found a streaking Lighty in transition who threw down an emphatic one handed slam over CSU's Jared Cunningham. Ohio State went on to win by a score of 72-59.

Lighty's play & leadership should serve notice to the rest of the Big Ten for 2010. Ohio State is not going to be an easy game without Evan Turner.
