The Phoenix Hagen Firebirdsfinished last year'sBBL regular season with a 9-25 record. But in 2010 a new roster of players which includes Buckeye Matt Terwilliger have transformed Hagen into a competitive bundesliga club. Hagen enjoyed a nice opening month with a 4-2 record in October, but have since dropped two contests in November to currently sit at 4-4. The October losses were a one point defeat to Telekom Baskets Bonn & a six point loss to undefeated champion Brose Baskets (results).
The major strength of Hagen is the back court tandem of Quintin Pryor & Mark Dorris, who currently leads the entire BBL in scoring & is 2nd in assists. Terwilliger is used in a reserve role in the 4 & 5 positions. He is averaging 5 points in around 16 mins per game so far. Twig has nailed 7 threes in 8 games (stats).
Hagen's 4-4 record currently has them in a 3-way tie for 8th in the league standings. Their next game is a home contest vs EWE Baskets before a road game at rationpharm..what follows is a 4 game homestand which will give the firebirds an opportunity to make some noise. (schedule)
Hagen's last game was a mild upset road loss to 2-7 Bayreuth. Here is a little recap from the opponent's perspective.
Radinovic Update - The second Buckeye in Germany's top league is Velimir Radinovic. V-Rad is with a club called Mitteldeutscher BCin Weissenfels, Germany. He has been absent of play up to this point due to knee surgery in September. Velimir was projected to miss a good 2 to 3 months but is currently ahead of schedule & is slated to play vs ratiopharm this saturday.
